Lucky for us, during the Redentore the Doge (Major) at the time, built a wonderful Church along the Gran Canal by Andrea Palladio who was one of the most talented architects of Renaissance known for building several cathedrals, villas, and palaces in Veneto Region.

Preparations begin early in the morning when people begin to decorate their boats, or the small wooden terraces on rooftops from where they can admire the fireworks. At sunset, Saint Mark's basin begins to fill with up with boats of all kinds, festooned with balloons and garlands, and thousands of Venetians await the fireworks while dining on the boats. Around 10 o'clock at night, from pontoons placed nearby the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the fireworks begin and Saint Mark's basin becomes one of the most atmospheric stages in the world. The fireworks last for about an hour, illuminating the night and igniting feelings of joy in both Venetians and visitors. Once the fireworks are over, almost every young adult heads off to the Lido, where they sit on the sand and wait for dawn.

Follow our tips next time you attend Redentore feast:

1. Book your boat much in advance. If Redentore is usually around the 15th-20th of July, you should book your boat already in May or early June in order to have more choice and lower the prices (that can be very high!) - We suggest to book via Antlos sailing company. They have a very good and safe charter service and the team behind the project is exactly from Venice. You could not ask for a better contact for the occasion!

2. Get the right music & boozes on board. All the boats which have good music, attract other guests from other boat and they start improvised parties with people from other boats joining them. These parties are a serious blast! Each boat is well equipped and fulfilled with drinks and also food as the party starts around 3-4 PM and goes on till 1-2 AM of the following day, so be sure you have enough to stay energetic till the end of the night as there is no chance to get off during the party or at least we not suggest so.

3. Do not be afraid to jump into the Laguna water and to hop onto other's boats. We had amazing fun meeting new friends on other boats and yachts during the evening. It's a unique occasion where people from all over Europe get together. Don't get scared by the water that can look dirty but honestly it left our skin so soft! (lol).

4. Visit other Laguna island before the party starts. Take advantage of the boat, make a tour around other island of the Laguna, especially we suggest to visit Burano (the famous island with coloured houses as you can see from our pictures below) and Torcello.

5. The best part of Redentore are the fireworks, do leave before and watch them all. The fireworks start around 11 PM and last for 40 minutes. 40 amazing minutes where the colours of the lights in the sky are reflected on the water and on all Venice monuments and in particular on Rrdentore Church. An experience to try at least once in a lifetime!

So shall we see you all next year at the Redentore celebration then? (P.S. Venetian guys are also particularly known for being gentlemen...just in case you didn't know ;)

A special thanks to Antlos Team for the amazing pictures!
